The Reign of God, or as some prefer to call it Gods will for the world, is at the centre of the mission and ministry of Jesus: Jesus proclaims a Kingdom as already present when he informs the disciples of John the Baptist that the blind can see, the lame can walk, the deaf can hear etc. (Mt 11/2-19), talks about casting out demons (Mt. 12/28:Lu. 11/20), states the Kingdom is in your midst (Lu.17/20-21). It is God’s beloved handiwork, indwelt by the Spirit of life, with an intrinsic value all its own. But as the Jamieson, Fausset & Brown commentary explains: "of the Godhead--The Greek (theotes) means the ESSENCE and NATURE of the Godhead, not merely the divine perfections and attributes of Divinity (Greek, 'theiotes'). This is a possibility and, if correct, it speaks to Peter’s demise and replacement by women who are able to watch.

Although nineteenth century Biblical studies made acceptance of the Fourth Gospel’s historical accuracy difficult, theology had tended to find in the Spirit or faith a certainty and continuity between the ancient church and the present Christian experience. If one accepts Davies’ analysis Paul may have been teaching a Torah of the Eschaton before its time. Later NT writings similarly refer to Jesus as "the great shepherd of the sheep" (Heb 13:20), the "shepherd and guardian of your souls" (1 Pet 2:25), and the "chief shepherd" (1 Pet 5:4), while the Book of Revelation explicitly combines references to Jesus as both Lamb and shepherd (Rev 7:17).

God is one simple living Being who exists as three distinct, but not separate, persons, who is indivisible and without parts. Hedrick concludes: "I am personally convinced that our present Coptic version of the Gospel of Thomas was not derived from the synoptic Gospels. The Triune God has always worked harmoniously together as well as distinctively for our creation and redemption. Jerome was one of the pioneers of the religious life, in whose favor he wrote to meet the criticism of his day.

For Paul, the Crucifixion of Jesus was not an isolated event in history, but a cosmic event with significant eschatological consequences, as in Cor 2:8. The way Mary is adored and prayed to deflects attention away from the only Savior-Intercessor and comes between the believer and Christ. Jesus Christ liberator: a critical Christology for our times. Many commentators think that the only reason the anointing is in the text is because Mark’s community would have been distressed that Jesus did not receive a proper burial since the women’s intentions of anointing the body at the tomb are foiled (16.1f).

Paul himself finds it difficult to describe what had happened and in a fascinating passage in one of his letters he explains this as a resurrection appearance of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15.8-10) The Damascus Road experience was both a conversion and a call. Core Christian biblical theology is here upheld: the full divinity of the divine Word or Son, the full humanity of Jesus like us in every way, yet without sin.

The Romans and the Jews would want Christ to be provably dead. In the New Testament, Jews are described as rejecting Jesus' claims apparent claims to divinity, accusing him of blasphemy. For those who trust in their own works, and reject God’s way of grace (unmerited favor), the substitutionary death of Jesus is abhorrent. In 2 Kings 4.8f, we also find the motifs of a wealthy woman (2 Kings 4.8) who is able to perceive the true identity of a holy man (2 Kings 4.9), a meal (2 Kings 4.8), oil, the woman’s devotion (2 Kings 4.30) and the interplay of life and death (2 Kings 4.17, 20, 34).

One such problem is the apparent inability of God to intervene in the world. In Jesus' time, people believed they would be saved if they followed about 600 rules and laws. It does not matter whether the objectors to the anointing are charitable or greedy; the real issue is that their concern with money blinds them to spiritual realities. According to Walvoord and other pretribbers, Russia will attack the Middle East in a final attempt to control it (Armageddon, oil, and the Middle East, p. 28).

Let’s summarize all that was explained before. Valentinus writes, in what is probably a remnant of a sermon: From the beginning you [the "elect" or Gnostic Christians] have been immortal, and you are children of eternal life. They also believe the RLDS Church, as defined by Joseph Smith III, is the only true church. Therefore, in Reformed theology, if God is to save anyone He must predestine, call, elect individuals to salvation since fallen man does not want to, indeed is incapable of choosing God. [145] Total depravity does not mean, however, that people are as evil as possible.
